Originally awarded to Jan Coleman, Nantes-Vue was one of the first Huguenot farms in Paarl.
The current homestead reflects Cape Dutch charm and is believed to date back to the 1820s.
What remains today is a lovingly restored piece of a once 20-acre estate.
The homestead is the original farmhouse of the farm, Nantesvue, which was awarded
to Jan Coleman in 1692. It was one of the first farms in the Paarl area allocated to the
French Huguenots. The current stand and house are all that remain of the original 20-
acre farm. The exact date of the house’s construction is unknown, but it is believed to
have been built between 1824 and 1830, during the period when the farm belonged to
Pieter Jacobus de Villiers.
According to local town records, the water mill, Colonies Mill, was already in
operation shortly after the farm was allocated, and several buildings were present on
the property at that time.
